English Language Arts

Educators teaching an ELA subject at St. Paul Prep must indicate that courses are aligned to Common Core ELA standards (cited in the syllabus). Further demonstration of the use of these standards must be evident in the educator’s pacing guide and unit plans. Evaluation of these standards and their implementation in the classroom will be the responsibility of school administration.

Students must earn a minimum of eight credits in English language arts (ELA) in order to graduate. Saint Paul Preparatory School outlines one possible sequence that could be fulfilled.

ELA Sequence: General English 9, General English 10, World Literature, Senior Literature, Speech, Creative Writing

For students entering into 9th grade from 8th grade, the above track may be followed directly. For transfers beginning 10th grade or above, the equivalent of classes must be identified and conveyed into the St. Paul Preparatory School system.

The basis of these classes may not always be clear, though there are key elements that must be in place in order to be considered for credit as outlined below.

All acceptable courses must be in alignment to the ELA Common Core Standards.
